چکیده

We consider traffic networks with a common origin and common destination that are subject to congestion and susceptible to the Braess paradox. Users of such networks choose their routes simultaneously in an attempt to minimize travel cost. A counterintuitive implication of the equilibrium analysis of the users’ route choices is that, as demand for the network increases, the addition of a new edge to the network may be beneficial to all the users when the network congestion is relatively low (n = 10 in our study), harmful when congestion is moderate (n = 20), and have no effect when congestion is high (n = 40). Using a within-subjects design with payoff contingent on performance, we test this hypothesis in a network experiment and report evidence that strongly supports it. 2006 Elsevier B.V. Fuzzy Hierarchical Location-Allocation Models for Congested Systems

There exist various service systems that have hierarchical structure. In hierarchical service networks, facilities at different levels provide different types of services. For example, in health care systems, general centers provide low-level services such as primary health care services, while the specialized hospitals provide high-level services. Because of demand congestion in service networ...

A Congested Double Path Approach for a Hub Location-allocation Problem with Service Level at Hubs

In this paper an uncapacitated multiple allocation p-hub median problem is discussed. The model minimizes the transportation cost based on inventory service level at hubs through double paths between hubs. Inventory service level is defined as the percent of inventory shortage of vehicles at hubs according to passengers demand and replenishment time of vehicles. A real data from 25 nodes of mun...

Concave regularizations and MAP priors for sparse topic models

Across all sectors of the modern information economy, large unstructured repositories of data are being aggregated at an ever-increasing rate. This move towards ‘big data’ has created an enormous demand for techniques to efficiently extract structure from such data sets. Specific contexts for this demand include natural language models for organizing text corpuses, image feature extraction mode...

Maximal Benefit Location Problem for A Congested System

Some servers are to be located at nodes of a network. Demand for services of these servers is located at each node and a subset of the nodes is to be chosen to locate one server in each. Each customer selects a server with a probability dependent on distance and a certain amount of benefit is achieved after giving service to the customer. Customers may waive receiving service with a known prob...

Optimal Signal Control in Urban Road Networks with High Priority Congested Centers

Keeping the density of traffic flow and air pollution in an acceptable level and developing a good capacity for transit in the high priority areas of the city, is really a big deal in large and crowded cities. To address this problem, a new method of intersection signal optimization is presented in this paper. Based on network fundamental diagrams, an Internal–External Traffic Metering Strategy...
